A. Vitkauskas was born
in 1937 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
He has graduated from Kaunas Polytechnic Institute, acquiring the diploma of
Mechanical Engineer (1958).
During 1958-1960 he worked as a master and a senior master at Silk Weaving
Company in Kaunas,
and during 1960-1962 - as a senior engineer at the Lithuanian Institute of
Industrial Design, Kaunas.
From 1962 he is working at Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (from 1990 - Kaunas
University of Technology),
instantly as an Assistant Professor, later as Senior Lecturer, Associate
Professor, Head of the Department of Textiles.
In 1968 he defended his Doctor’s dissertation in Materials Science
(“Investigation of Inverse Stress Relaxation in Filament Yarns”).
From 1998 he is on a staff at the Department of Textile Technology, formerly as
Associate Professor, and from 1999 - as Full Professor in Textile Materials
Science.
In 1999 he defended the research report “Viscoelastic Properties of Textile
Yarns: Modeling, Experimental Investigation, Prediction” at Riga Technical
University, Latvia and acquired the Dr.Habil.Sc.Eng. degree.
In 1975 he spent a
period at Jassy Polytechnic Institute, Romania,
and in 1980 - at Lodz Polytechnic Institute as a Visiting Professor.
In 2001 he delivered lectures in ”Mechanics of Textile Materials” within
European Masters Programm in Advanced Textile
Engineering (E-TEAM) at Tampere University of Technology, Finland.
Prof. A. Vitkauskas is an author or co-author of more than 100 papers, some manuals for students, over 50 presentations in conferences.
He is also:
The International expert at Latvian Promotional Council H-11
The expert in Assessment of Laboratories at Lithuanian National Bureau of
Accreditation,
The Member of the Council of Lithuanian Textile Institute,
The Head of section “Textile Materials” of Lithuanian Materials Research
Society,
