Jonas Grigas was born 10 April 1938 in village Kabeliai, District Varena, Lithuania.
1961 Graduated from Faculty of Physics & Mathematics, Vilnius University (VU), Vilnius, Lithuania;
1961-1963 Engineer in the Institute of Radiomeasurements, Vilnius;
1963-1972 Assistant Professor, Senjor Lectuerer, Department of Radiophysics, VU Vilnius;
1968 Awarded Degree of PhD in Semiconductor and Dielectric Physics, VU.;
1972-1973 Visiting Researcher, Institute of Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences, Praha;
1972-1982 Associate Professor, Department of Radiophysics, VU, Vilnius;
1980 Awarded Degree of Doctor of Sciences in Solid State Physics, Inst. of Physics, Riga, Latvia;
