Rimas Vaishnoras was born in Kaunas, in 1943.
He received the Engineer diploma in Kaunas Technological University in 1966
and PhD degree in Physics in 1975 (Spectroscopic and magnetooptical investigation of the erbium garnet).
He is the head of the liquid crystals laboratory of the faculty of physics and technology in Vilnius Pedagogical University.
He published over 50 articles.

 Field of scientific studies :
The field of interest of research includes both basic studies and technological applications of thermotropic liquid crystals. Especial interest theris for organometalic complexes and polymer dispersed liquid crystals. We creating LC optical devices working as light modulators, gratings, power limters and optical memories.
