Jonas Steponas Vilys was born in Rokiškis,
Lithuania, in 1945.
He received the diploma of Mechanical Engineer in 1968
and Ph.D. degree in Technics in 1973 at Kaunas Politechnical Institute.
Then he continued working at Kaunas University of Technology in Metals
Technology Department, was head of this Department.
Presently he is Association Professor of Metals Technology Department of Kaunas
University of Technology.
He has authored 11 inventions, one monograph,
more than one hundred scientific
publications and many scientific conferences.

His current research interests are
investigation of plastic deformation of metals near surface layers.
